The record breaking fourth season of the Sunday Poker League was completed on April 26th, 2009 as the championship event was held.
In the end, it was Ashwin Sivanesan who started 11th out of the 17 players in chips who was able to capture the crown in the richest tournament in the SPL's short existience.
The season saw a record 178 total entries over the 10 preliminary weeks, and had 17 players take part in the championship tournament.
The tournament kicked off shortly before 11 a.m. and was completed around 7:30 p.m. There was a total of 7 hours and 50 minutes of play to determine the champion. Ashwin was able to outlast Nancy Crilley in a grueling heads up match that lasted nearly 90 minutes.
Ashwin was able to take home $730, while Nancy pocketed $375. Also finishing in the money was Tim Butt, who started the championship 15th in chips, but he was able to grind his way to a 3rd way finish. Tim was even able to hold the chip lead for much of the final table, he takes home $125 for his efforts.
